About Me

Hi: It's Merniebug here. Well actually it's Melanie but I answer to a variety of sobriquets. My mother had been reading Gone With The Wind at the time of my birth, thus, I was named Melanie. My friends call me Mel, It was my sister who coined the moniker Mernie when she was too young to pronounce Melanie correctly. It was eventually shortened to Mern. And then later when my nephew came along he called me Melwee because he couldn't pronounce Melanie either. Now my husband of thirty-four years is so confused he just calls me whatever comes to mind first. Actually I was Sweetheart until the day he realized the honeymoon was over. It was my cousin who added the bug to Mernie which is who I've always been to him and who I am on Splitcoast Stampers. So now that we've gotten past the odd name business, who else am I? I'm a child of the King, a wife and a mother to one grown son and five tailwaggin' fur babies. I am a retired interior designer, a rubber stamper, and a wanna be author who is just completing a first novel. I got into scrapping and rubber stamping to fill a creative void after retiring--it's less expensive than redecorating the house every year. LOL

This weeks card featuring Meljen's Designs SOCK MONKEY was fun to create and color.  It was printed twice, the second time a mirror image of the original.  After coloring with Copics the images were cut out and mounted on foam tape along with a bevy of stars and stripes.  The sentiment was generated on the computer.  This card would work well for any patriotic holiday, birthday, or just about any occassion that calls for a celebration.

What I used on my card:
IMAGE: Meljen's Design's sock Monkey
Star Punch by CARL, Brads, Buttons, Floss. Wire.

LITTLE RED WAGON:  Altered Embellishment-  I didn't have any red brads so I colored pink ones with Copics and turned them into red.  Also, the wire was brass colored and I colored it with Copics, both red and blue.
TELLEN'S PLACE CHALLENGE: #20 2 patterened papers.
SIR STAMPALOT: This challenge is to use punches. You can find Sir Stampalot here:
EVERYBODY ART CHALLENGE: The challenge is # 93 Summer.  Summer to me is the celebration of   patriotic holidays starting with Memorial Day at the beginning of summer, July 4th in the middle of summer, and summers end with Labor Day.
IC SKETCHES:  Pick Your Challlenge:  I chose Sketch #60 spilling my design outside the box,--a lot.
KAH-WINK-E-DINK: The challenge is to use or have six of something.  That's an easy one for me.  I have many stars on my card, but only six small stars with brads.
MY TIME TO CRAFT CHALLENGE:  Wild Thing is the theme.
PAPERTAKE CHALLENGE:  FUN FUN FUN.  Here are my my summertime monkeys having fun fun fun at any of the three Summertime Patriotic Holidays.
PARTYTIME TUESDAYS: BIRTHDAYS:  What could be more fitting than celebrating the birthday of our nation on the 4th of July.
COLOR CHEF CHALLENGE #53 Red, white/cream, light blue, dark blue.  I hope the light blue in the monkey's cap counts as the light blue.
CRAFTING WITH DEEDEE'S DIGI'S: The theme is red white and blue.
CRAFTY CARDMAKERS: #22 Least and Most.  I'm not particularly a fan of blue and don't use it much, but I LOVE red.  Red is in every room of my house except for my husband's bathroom.
CUPCAKE CRAFT CHALLENGE: #93 Summer delights.  To me the beginning of summer is hearlded by Memorial Day, the middle of summer is Independence Day on July 4th, and  winding up the season is Labor Day.  It's the patriotic Holidays that mean summer for me.
DIGI DOODLE SHOPS BEST: Buttons:  MY card has two buttons.  Both are stacked and placed on the center of the large star.
AiFACTORY: anything goes with a punch or die cut.
STAMP INSANITY: Kickin' Korners Challenge #12
OUR CREATIVE CORNER: WHAT SUMMER MEANS TO ME: To me summer means celebrating patriotic Holidays, Memorial, Independence, and Labor days at Church picnics at the park.
SCRAP STAMP & DOODLE : CREATE YOUR OWN EMBELLISHMENT:  This is an easy one for me since I usually do create my own. On this card the stars on wire springs are the created embellishment.  I also layered buttons on top of the center star for another.
SENTIMENTAL SUNDAYS: NEW OR NEGLECTED-My new is my Meljen digital sock monkey image.  I've had it a while but have never used it before so it's new to me.  The neglected is the star nestabilities.
